Deinking • In the deinking stage, the goal is to release and remove the hydrophobic contaminants from the recycled paper. The contaminants are mostly printing ink and stickies. Several processes are used, most commonly flotation or washing. • Small particles of ink are rinsed from the pulp with water in a process called washing.

  • Recycling and Deinking of Recovered Paper ScienceDirect

In the second step, the detached ink particles are removed from the pulp slurry by washing or flotation. Alkaline deinking is being widely used and is considered more efficient for ink detachment than neutral deinking. This chapter describes the various process steps involved in recycling and deinking of recovered paper, and the deinking processes.
